Francesco Guffanti says:
The wolf (Canis lupus italicus) has returned to the shadow of Mont Blanc. In recent years, I have followed the life of the pack, observing its hunting trips, the growth of the pups, and the social dynamics between them. It has been a unique privilege, for which I will always be grateful.
I discovered that wolves occasionally use this panoramic path during their hunting trips, so I set up a camera trap with the help of a PIR sensor and two flashes to capture their passage at the foot of the majestic Mont Blanc.
After several attempts and dealing with malfunctions caused by the freezing winter, I finally managed to get the shot I had long desired.
This photo is part of the project and photographic book Nuovi Equilibri, developed in collaboration with my friend André Roveyaz, documenting the return of the wolf to the upper Aosta Valley.

Italy
Born in Milan (Italy) in 1989, I found my home in the Aosta Valley, surrounded by woods, mountains, and animals that I came to know and love thanks to my dad. Since childhood, I’ve loved spending time immersed in nature, discovering its fascinating creatures and the habitats that support them. A few years ago, I began photographing the world around me and sharing my images with those close to me.
Always passionate about large carnivores, in 2023 I co-authored, with André Roveyaz, the photographic book Nuovi Equilibri, which presents our vision of the return of the wolf to the mountains of the upper Aosta Valley. This project, which has spanned over five years and is still ongoing, aims to help people understand the wolf for what it truly is, distancing it from the extremism that often shapes its perception.
