Julian Łoziński says:
I should explain upfront that this isn’t a studio photo, although it might look like one.
That day, I went to the meadow at the edge of the forest near where I live (Warsaw, Poland), to photograph lacewings and moths at dusk with a wide-angle lens, flash, and diffuser. Just in case, I also brought a macro lens as you never know what you’ll encounter in the meadow, and it pays to be prepared 🙂
Lacewings were showing off in waves. When nothing flew for a while, I attached a macro lens to my camera and decided to experiment with the beautiful centaureas growing in the meadow. I decided to photograph them with a longer shutter speed and flash for a minimalist, painterly look.

Hi! My name is Julian Łoziński and I’m a nature photographer from Poland. Initially, like probably everyone else, I focused on the classic, more documentary side of nature photography, but I soon became fascinated by a more “artistic” approach. I find it absolutely fascinating that by wandering in nature and exploring the surroundings, you can often capture the closest, everyday, and inconspicuous subjects in a creative, artistic way: surreal, painterly, minimalist, or abstract. Currently, I’m trying to combine these two styles—sometimes the scene is so beautiful that all I have to do is press the shutter button. But I’m often overwhelmed by the desire to present the world around us in a completely different way than how our eyes perceive it. I want to hold the viewer’s attention a little longer, so they understand what they’re seeing.
With my photos, I want to show that extraordinary images can be created anywhere, if we just let our creativity flow and hone our attention to detail. I believe this way I can sensitize viewers to the nature we have in our immediate surroundings and increase their awareness. Because if you love something, you also want to protect it.
