Johan says:

I took this photo on a late evening in June at a crosspoint in Zingem (Oost Vlaanderen, Belgium). During my bike ride, I discovered this roadkill. I went home to grab my photo gear. After an hour I went back to take the picture I already had in my mind. So actually with just some luck and my imagination I could go for this image. The location next to the McDonalds at the crosspoint was a plus for me. Was the squirrel so hungry to go for a Big Mac Menu and put his life at risk?

I only used my tripod to make this photo, using a long exposure of 1/2seconds. This long exposure was necessary to get the movement effect of the cars driving by. But of course, when the traffic lights turned red and the cars stopped, all eyes where focused on the photographer… Quite an awkward situation 😉.

I was born on 11-02-1972 and grew up in one of the most beautiful regions in Belgium, the Flemish Ardennes. I always loved nature ánd to create some nice pictures I do not have to travel far. About 80% of my pictures are taken in my ‘local patch’.
You have different types of nature photographers. For sure I’m not a hunter on species and do not expect any registration photos from me. If I have to categorize myself, it would be a photographer looking for feelings and ambiance. Try to show what I really see at the moment when I take the photograph, but most of all… try to show what I feel and how I see it at this moment! Rules are there to break. Looks easy, but that is not the fact. Creatively looking for the correct light, the best bokeh on the morning dew drops, searching for details that can make you feel happy, sad or scared. Try taking a picture of what you feel, not what you see!
