Irma Szabó says:

One of my favorite photo subjects is backlight photography. I especially like to photograph birds in backlight, because it is wonderful how the light shines through the bird’s wings or creates a beautiful contour. That’s why when I go into the hide, I always try to position myself so that the sunrise or sunset is facing me. I took the picture from a hide where we can be photographed birds without disturbing them. The birds are dressed in beautiful wedding clothes, in springtime. More precisely, I took the picture at the beginning of May, in the early morning hours, in Kiskunság in the south of Hungary, where there are a lot of birds since fortunately there is quite a lot of untouched uninhabited land. The image is the result of a lucky moment As the bird is about to take off, it begins to spread its wings nicely. Thanks to the backlight, the sun shines through the wings and the shadows of the bird’s neck and head can be nicely outlined. In the spring, I really loved photographing the great egrets in their beautiful wedding dress, it is one of the most majestic birds I have ever seen.

About Irma Szabó:

Romania/Hungary

After graduating as an Economist, I started photography only 10 years ago, for me, it is only a passion. But since then, I was captivated by nature: the mist of dawn above the lake, the scenery covered deep in the fog, watching birds’ behavior from dawn to dusk or the little flowers with dew drops running on the petals. Some simply walk by these wonders. Shooting against the sun is one of my favorite scenarios, but I also like abstracts. I experiment a lot with using longer exposures when photographing birds. This is a difficult technique because it has many components and requires a lot of experimentation. I also like to play with light and shadow. So, my range of interests is quite broad, it can be landscapes, birds, mammals, small animals, plants, and everything related to nature. As a nature photographer, I am out in nature a lot.

Unfortunately, many things change irrevocably as a result of human influence. It is feared that the many miracles that surround us will no longer be seen by future generations. The other way I also like to take photos to show the beauty of nature. I hope I manage to convey something from the many moments I experienced. If a few of my photos are exhibited in my country or anywhere in the world, where thousands of people look at them, and if they stop for a moment and look at the picture and if they are enchanted by the beauty of nature and they think about the transience and fragility of nature, that is a very good feeling for me. I believe in living these experiences is superior to winning prizes: to be there, on the spot, day after day to witness the wonder of the rising sun and to be fascinated by the beauty of life on our Planet – we ought to protect it more.
