Björn Nehrhoff von Holderberg says:
I went on a winter trip to Northern Norway at the beginning of 2024. Falling in love with the stunning region of Steigen, I rented a cottage right on the beach, with majestic mountains serving as a breathtaking backdrop, together with my wife.
We had the pleasure of experiencing the vast landscapes and incredible light conditions, which included magical northern lights and vibrant sunsets. We spent our days hiking, paddling, and of course photographing the beauty around us. The beaches near our cottage proved to be an unexpected highlight.
With the changing tides showing a height difference of about 3 meters, the exposed sand revealed new patterns every day. Each morning, we began by scouting the beach to see what treasures the sea had left behind. After a particularly stormy and windy night, with waves crashing onto the shore, the patterns were completely different from the previous days.
While exploring our favorite spot on the beach, I discovered an incredible sand formation that resembled a “Dragonfish.” The moment felt fleeting, as heavy raindrops started to fall, threatening to wash away the ephemeral artwork.

Germany
Being an adventure, landscape, and nature photographer and author based near Hamburg in Germany, I have an affinity for exploring and capturing the wild and rugged, as well as the sense of adventure that comes with it. Living in the lovely area of Holsteinische Schweiz, with its several dozen lakes left behind by the retreating glaciers of the last ice age, I spent most of my youth exploring nature. I wandered around lakes, rivers, and the local woodlands, immersing myself in their beauty.
Captivated by nature’s silence and its countless little wonders, I later felt the urge to document these moments and scenes. Before becoming a full-time photographer and writer, I earned a university degree in forestry in München (Munich). However, due to a lack of job opportunities in the forestry industry after graduation, I turned my passion into a profession. I began writing and photographing for kayaking, hiking, biking, and travel magazines.
Being entirely self-taught, I had a slow start. But with perseverance, I was fortunate enough to build a career, writing and photographing hundreds of articles for print magazines and producing 13 books over more than a decade. Recently, my focus has shifted more towards pure nature photography. Projects such as photographing the most beautiful German forests and beaches have resulted in new books.
I love capturing every aspect of nature, from rare, ephemeral moments in grand landscapes to fascinating details. I aim to create images that closely reflect my experiences outdoors, although, as any nature photographer will know, the reality is always more vivid and intense.
