Luca Lorenz says:
Attracted by the fascinating birdlife and the desire to photograph it in an artistic and emotional way, I spent one week in the Camargue. The sun was at its highest point of the day and it was very hot, around 40 degrees in the shade, when I photographed a group of flamingos in a reed bed, filtering the tiniest animals out of the water. Under these harsh light conditions, I concentrated on minimalist images. I had an image idea in my head for some time and the sun was just perfect for it.
I photographed one with a strong overexposure so that only the darkest parts of the almost white feathered flamingo remained visible. This allowed me to draw all the attention to the flamingo’s golden eye and the underside of its elegant neck, which was in shadow as the sun was shining directly from above.

Luca Lorenz
Germany
Growing up on the outskirts of Berlin, Luca spent ages in nature as a child observing all kinds of wild animals. Particularly fascinated by birds, his attention was always drawn to the treetops. He would spend hours enthusiastically observing their behaviour, immersing himself in listening to the birdsongs and sharing his enthusiasm and love for these enchanting creatures with numerous people.
At the age of 13, after struggling for two years to get the money together, he was finally able to buy his first camera himself. Since then Luca has been out in nature almost every day, constantly coming up with new picture ideas and projects to capture the beauty of native wildlife in an artistic way. Meanwhile he has been able to fulfill his dream and has taken up wildlife photography full-time.
At the age of 19, Luca can already look back on a whole series of international awards and is delighted with the recognition his images have received. Through unusual perspectives, underexposure and overexposure, slow shutter speeds or sophisticated image compositions, Luca creates his abstract, minimalistic or sometimes painterly, dreamy wildlife images.
