Gergő Kártyás says:

I took the image in the small village of Döröske, Hungary, in the forest of our backyard. I was watching and taking photos of the birds that were choosing mates and moving to the birdhouses I had made for them, when I heard a slight noise. This was the moment when I saw a cockchafer wandering from one tree to another. I immediately changed my teleobjective into a macro. It was quite a bizarre macro lens: a basic kit with a reverse ring. The light of the spring sunset was beautifully filtered by the trees, so I had softer and less bright light for photographing. As the adjustment of the sharpness with this objective is done by a back and forth movement, taking a sharp photo takes a lot of concentration, care and really good eyes. I took images of the insect for half an hour until the sun went down. In total, I took about 60 photos and only 8 were appreciable, the best moment is shown above.

About Gergő Kártyás:

Hungary

I am Gergő Kártyás, 16, from Hungary. I started seriously dealing with photography in 2016. Since I had been able to spend a lot of time in nature since my early childhood, it was ideal for me to specialize in nature photography. Whenever I have the chance, I always go hiking in the forests and in the meadows near our weekend house. During these hikes I never leave my photo gear at home. 100% of my pictures of nature were taken within 8 kilometers from the house. Often it is enough to go to the forest in our backyard to take a good photo. Since I’m dealing with nature photography, I have much more connections to nature and I also take care of it more. My knowledge of the local nature and wildlife have broadened a lot: instead of the 10 species I have known before, I know now more than 60.
