Sam Mannaerts says:

I live at the borders of the river Scheldt. A little further down the street there is a small river inlet where the tides are easily observed. I made a couple of drone shots in this area over the last few years. The abstract forms of the sludge when it’s low tide attracted me for a long time. When it snowed last ‘winter’ for three days, I thought it would be a cool sight to see the borders in snow and the sludge, with all its special forms, being brown/grey. So I flew the drone over the river and shot this image. Most of my drone photos are made with the drone camera faced completely down. This creates more abstract photos and you will have to look longer to see what’s exactly shown.

About Sam Mannaerts:

About Sam Mannaerts:

Belgium

Sam was born in 1986 in Sint-Niklaas, between Antwerp and Ghent. For his 18th birthday he gave himself a camera. As an autodidact, he quickly learned the tricks of the trade. Not only his knowledge about photography grew, but also nature itself began to fascinate him more and more. He likes to travel and by traveling his photography hobby started to take on larger proportions. With a photo of the Preikestolen, he won a trip to Finland to photograph bears. That same year he also became a finalist in the photo contest of National Geographic.

So he rolled from one experience to another. A few years later, he started hosting workshops, and not much later he had the opportunity to tell his story about his first steps in drone photography during the Lowland photo festival in Kinepolis, Antwerp. Although many photographers now own a drone, he may perhaps be called one of the Flemish pioneers in drone photography.
