Wim van den Heever says:

I spend a couple of weeks in the Amboseli region of Kenya each year working and photographing some of the huge tuskers of Africa. I specifically enjoy working with this one huge iconic bull, named Craig. This magnificent gentle giant is such an amazing animal to be around, with his gentle demeanor and awe-inspiring presence. Knowing the general route he was moving towards I placed a camera on a ground pod and waited for him to approach. I was lucky when he stopped and stared at the camera when walking past it. With a remote control, I managed to trigger the camera and capture this scene. An absolute highlight of my life for me!

I’m Wim van den Heever, a professional wildlife and landscape photographer. I’m based in South Africa where I run and own Tusk Photo, a company that specializes in photographic travel all around the world. My journey into the world of wildlife photography began in Africa where I was fortunate to grow up surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and a rich tapestry of wildlife. As a child, I developed a deep fascination for the animal kingdom and the intricate ecosystems that sustain it. This fascination ultimately led me to combine my love for nature with my growing interest in photography.

Over the years, I have traveled to some of the most remote and diverse corners of the globe in pursuit of awe-inspiring moments in the wild. From the vast savannas of Africa; to the icy expanses of the Arctic and beyond. I have been privileged to witness and document the wonders of our planet. As a photographer, I enjoy pushing the photographic limits and I’m always in search of new fresh ways to grow my art and photography. For this reason, I completely embrace almost all photographic genres, from underwater to aerial photography and everything in between. Although my first love is working with big animals such as elephants, lions, leopards, jaguars, and more; I derive immense fulfillment when capturing animals and birds from geckos to the smallest hummingbirds.

My work aims to not only capture the raw beauty of wildlife but also to tell compelling stories about the challenges these animals face in an ever-changing world. Through my photographs, I hope to inspire a greater appreciation for the natural world and a sense of responsibility to protect it for future generations. My journey as a wildlife photographer is ongoing, and I look forward to continuing to explore, learn, and document the remarkable beauty of our planet’s wildlife. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to connect with the natural world and join in the efforts to protect and preserve it for generations to come.
